Description

The Kuksa (Kåsa in Swedish) is a traditional wooden cup made and used by the Sami peoples of Lapland.

These beautifully handcarved cups are made from mountain birch burrs specially selected for their quality. These cups offer a link to the ancient traditions of the peoples of the north, and are still made using traditional techniques.

The Snaps Kuksa is a perfect size for a warming tipple in the winter forest, or a revitalising espresso in the morning!

Provenance and Ethics

The Sami are the indigenous people of Scandinavia, these cups are made using their traditional methods. Sami people have been making and using Kuksa cups for thousands of years. They are made from mountain birch burls, which are removed without damaging the tree. The strap is made from bark tanned reindeer leather from freely grazing reindeer in Lapland. Bark tanning gives the leather a natural water repelling effect, and is better for the environment than chromium tanning.
