DESCRIPTION

The market leading cleaner from Nikwax, designed to revitalise water repellency and breathability of waterproof gear. Easy to use in your washing machine or by hand.

A technical cleaner for outdoor clothing and synthetic sleeping bags, it cleans effectively, restores water repellency and revives breathability. Recommended for Gore-Tex®, Windstopper®, Nikwax Analogy® and all other waterproof, windproof and fleece clothing and gear.

Your waterproof clothing and equipment could be soaking up water because the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) has been compromised by dirt, or because it has been cleaned with a conventional laundry detergent. Dirt attracts water and household detergents leave water attracting (hydrophilic) residues, leading to fabric 'wetting out' in wet or damp conditions.

If your waterproof clothing or equipment is relatively new, or recently treated with a Nikwax waterproofer, then cleaning with Nikwax Tech Wash® will not only remove contaminants, such as dirt and residues left behind by household detergents, but also revitalise DWR.

Regular cleaning will enhance the performance of your gear. With regular cleaning, you should be able to clean your gear 5-6 times with Nikwax Tech Wash before it requires re-waterproofing. When Nikwax Tech Wash® alone does not revitalise the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) of your gear (e.g. water does not bead on the fabric surface) it’s time to re-waterproof using the appropriate Nikwax waterproofer.

PROVENANCE AND ETHICS

Nikwax - originally for preserving hiking boots - was first produced as a commercial product in a North London flat. In 1977, at 22 years of age, Nick Brown mixed his first order with a discarded tea urn, a primus stove, a jug and materials bought from a local hardware store. The wax was then poured into tins which he silk screened by hand. Nick sold his products to the outdoor trade, driving a second hand Morris 1000 van and later, he bought an Inter Rail cards to introduce his product into Europe. Next he moved to a workshop in Clerkenwell in London and before he knew it, Nick was selling ‘the product’ to eight countries.
